Every few years all of the cousins get together and venture out to a small town in South Dakota for a weekend full of challenges. We partner up and take turns competing in rodeo-style type of games.  This year we raced an ATV around the ranch, shot guns, made sliders and sides as well as had a bags tournament.  The biggest surprise of the weekend was that the city slickers finally beat the cowboys. Only took us four challenges to finally come back with a victory!

Challenge: ATV race around the property with a break in the middle to put on hunting overalls.

Challenge: Target shooting.

Challenge: Skeet Shooting.

Not a bad way to start the morning! Love this view. Too bad the buffalo were not out. Normally you can see a herd on the rolling South Dakota hills.

Sisseton Wahpeton College: a community college of the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe.

We got a tour of a Native American Reservation in Sisseton, South Dakota. I have to say it kind of reminded me of Poland in the 1980s, where everyone lives in the same exact home and no one owns their property. I don't know too much about the system to make an educated comment but the most interesting thing I learned was that in Sisseton there is two of everything. Two schools: a tribal school and a regular school. Two police forces: a tribal police force that can only ticket Native Americans and a regular police force. Two governments: a tribal counsel and the US government. Two clinics/hospitals, etc. Very interesting! Is it me or does this system promotes/encourages segregation?
