I noticed two old photo albums at my parents-in-law’s basement. Soon those two albums consumed me. What should have been a quick flip through a family album turned into a two hour time-travel adventure.
I hopped back in time to 1908 and marveled at fashion and laughed at the captions of a witty family member who was not only cleaver in their writing but also a talented photographer.
Next to the albums laid six boxes that were labeled “old family photos.” I spent Eva’s WHOLE nap time looking through those boxes and living through other people’s memories.
I wondered how they lived, what made them happy, what adventures they must have had and how uniquely their memories were preserved.
I flipped through sketches,
WWII newspaper clippings,
and hundreds of photographs.
It’s amazing what those who have passed away have left for us. Time passes and we all tend to forget those little moments. We forget how our grandmothers talked and walked. Their personality escapes us as time passes. We grow, we get busy and we forget. Those boxes of memories are now the only thing that links us back and refreshes those faint memories. It’s beautiful, magical and perhaps just a little sad.
So make sure to PRINT those beautiful photos you admire on the computer!
One day, a 100 years from now, a distant relative will flip through YOUR family album and admire your fashion, your photos and adventures.
